There’s a new DNC Chair and it’s all good news for Republicans.
(Reuters) – U.S. Democrats elected former Labor Secretary Tom Perez as chairman on Saturday, choosing a veteran of the Obama administration to lead the daunting task of rebuilding the party and heading the opposition to Republican President Donald Trump.
Members of the Democratic National Committee, the administrative and fundraising arm of the party, picked Perez on the second round of voting over U.S. Representative Keith Ellison, a liberal from Minnesota.
Let’s start with the fact that Perez is an artifact of the Obama Administration serving as Labor Secretary. Democrats who need desperately to shed the disaster of the last 8 years just signaled that they would like to continue to alienate their moderate voters.
Perez is as liberal as they come. As National Review observed:
Perez’s liberal credentials are as impeccable as they come. Mother Jones called him “one of the administration’s most stalwart progressives.”
Conservative policy experts who have followed his work in the Justice and Labor Departments consider him perhaps the Obama administration’s most radical and relentless ideologue.
Iain Murray, the Competitive Enterprise
Institute’s vice president of strategy, calls Perez “possibly the most dangerous person in the administration right now.”
“His rewriting of U.S. labor law is probably the most fundamental attack on the free-enterprise system going on at present,” Murray says. “If he has his way, we won’t just revert to the 1930s. We’ll do things that even Franklin
Roosevelt couldn’t do, like eliminate vast numbers of independent-contractor jobs and unionize those that remain.”
The democrats are headed down a rabbit hole of gender, identity, and Kensyean policies. The American people just rejected this ideology and they double down instead of moving on.
